About Rubix Cuba
Whilst appearing happy on the outside and in their music, Rubix Cuba are a deep and melancholy band (not that you'd guess it) with songs from the heart...which they wear on their shirtsleeves!! The Rubix Cubans bring a ball of energy to any stage and are bouncy, photogenic and annoyingly catchy.
Rubix Cuba draws influences from a variety sources including ska, rock, funk, punk, swing, jazz, latin and Cuban. This makes the band a musical feast for listeners and a visual canrival for gig goers.
The band explodes in a ball of energy on stage (most days) so check out a show near you...and see a giant dancing rubiks cube in the flesh...CUBIE!!!!
For most of 2006 thus far the Australian seven piece known as Rubix Cuba have been in retreat - recording their debut album, "With Life". The band briefly escaped captivity for a maiden tour across the Tasman with British ska legends Neville Staple's Specials before returning to the studio. After a quiet start, the second half of the year is winding up to be a BIG one.
Since forming in November 2001, Rubix Cuba has performed a stack of shows, including shows alongside Reel Big Fish, The Porkers, Xavier Rudd, Laura Imbruglia, Area 7, The Butterfly Effect, 1200 Techniques, Maya Jupiter, After the Fall, The Spazzys, The Testeagles, Sick Puppies, Unpaid Debt, National Pornographic, Killing Heidi, Endorphin and Mick Hart. In recent times Rubix Cuba have had the privilege to team up with MXPX (US), Lagwagon (US), Frenzal Rhomb, The Managers (NZ), The Bronx (US), The Von Bondies (US), Gazoonga Attack and to tour with the kings of cool, The Royal Crown Revue (US).
The highlights thus far of the band's relatively short career have been:
(1) Their tour with Neville Staple's Specials in New Zealand;
(2) Their tour with The Special Beat: a super band consisting of members from the The Specials (UK) and The British Beat(UK) in Australia; and,
(3) Their 2005 tours with the Royal Crown Revue in 2004 and 2005 including the Mad Caddies (US) in 2005.
